Why Context Matters

Benign Ethnic Neutropenia (BEN) is common in individuals of African or Middle Eastern descent and can be misdiagnosed as an immune disorder. Additionally, corticosteroid use can 'demarginate' neutrophils, causing a high count without an underlying infection.

Lab ranges are statistical averages, not biological laws. "Normal" for a 20-year-old male isn't normal for a 60-year-old female.
