Infectious Colitis

Infectious Colitis is an inflammation of your colon (large intestine) that is caused by an infection. This condition leads to symptoms primarily affecting your digestive system. The infection can be triggered by various types of germs, most commonly bacteria (like Salmonella, E. coli, Campylobacter, or Clostridioides difficile), viruses (such as Norovirus or Rotavirus), or sometimes parasites. These pathogens typically enter your body through contaminated food or water, via person-to-person contact, or as a side effect of certain medications, particularly antibiotics which can disrupt the natural balance of gut bacteria.
